This week Perthlings, WPF bring you....
Camellias, stunning evergreen shrubs treasured for their exquisite blooms, their glossy, evergreen foliage and compact full growth habit. They produce gorgeous blooms from Autumn to spring, provided they're planted in the right position with the right conditions. Camellias are amongst the most popular of the flowering shrubs.
Basic rules to follow for success with Camellias are...
★ Camellias thrive in temperate climates.
★ Camellias are best grown in consistently moist, organically rich, slightly acidic, , well-draining soil.
★ A soil pH of 5.5 to 6.5 is ideal.
★ Camellias thrive in part shade and need their delicate blooms protecting from the early morning sun. More established camellia plants can thrive in full sun when their canopy of leaves is dense enough to provide good shade for their roots.
★ They also need shelter from damaging winds.
Our Camellias from left to right: Exquisite, Chansonette, Jean May, Jennifer Sue, Paradise Hilda, and Weroona.
Have a great week guys :)
